What beauty treatments should I have done before my wedding?

March 5th, 2010 | Posted by admin | Category: beauty3 Comments

What beauty treatments should I have done and what beauty regimen should I follow in the months, weeks, and days prior to my wedding?

Manicure, pedicure, haircut. Exfoliate your face and body twice a week. Consider getting a wax so you don’t get razor burn.

What french castle inspired beauty and the beast?

February 28th, 2010 | Posted by admin | Category: beauty1 Comment

I know there’s an actual castle in France that inspired the author of Beauty and the Beast. I can’t remember the name of it but I know it had the word ‘couer’ in it.

The castle of Raray is the answer. It is there that Jean Cocteau shot his eponymous film in 1945.

How can you get beauty companies to send you free products to test?

February 1st, 2010 | Posted by admin | Category: beauty2 Comments

I am a frequent viewer of Juicystar07’s (A beauty guru on YouTube) videos and today, she posted a video that included a haul from Beauty From The Earth Cosmetics. She mentioned that she gets free products. How does she get them? Is it because she makes reviews (she says that it is optional for her to review them, they send them to her anyways)? What can I do to get free products?

Thanks!

A lot of YouTube beauty gurus get sent free products.

First of all, there are a toooooonnnnnnnn on girls (and even a few guys!) who do makeup tutorials on YouTube. Some have like 100 subscribers… and some, like JuicyStar07 have like 200,000+.
At some point, they will get a guru badge (kind of like a Top Contributor badge on Y!A, except the Guru badges are based on how many subscribers you have) if they become popular enough. It’s found under their picture/icon on their channel page. There are other types of non-beauty gurus, but the Guru badge looks the same for everyone.

Anyways, once they get a guru badge, it’s basically telling the world, ‘This person is a big deal! A lot of people watch him/her!’ So companies take notice. That is when they start getting emails to be sent free products. Some beauty gurus get waaaaaaayyyy more than others, depending on their age, their demographic (ie, how old their viewers are, what country they are from, etc.) etc.
Let’s take JuicyStar07 as an example. She’s like 16 or 17? Most of her viewers are American or Canadian and are like 13-20 years old. So, companies with products like wrinkle-prevention creams and things targetted for older women obviously will not send her products. But companies like BFTE which targets teenagers and adults, would.

Basically, you have to become super known and popular. Usually it’s YouTube girls who get free beauty stuff, but I’ve seen a couple bloggers (who blog about beauty and stuff) get free products, too.

There’s probably some weird ways to get them too, like signing up to test them out but they’re a bit shadier and under-the-table, if you know what I mean. And the products will not have yet been approved for consumer use. So who knows, it could turn your skin blue!

So. Become a YouTube beauty guru. Become super popular. And then BAM! You might just get free product offers! :)

Also, something that really helped JuicyStar07 and AllThatGlitters21, among others’, popularity was that they were featured in Seventeen magazine’s August 2009 issue as the YouTube beauty smarties (there were 10 of them), and they have also been featured in the issues after that (the Dec. 2009/Jan 2010 issue had MichellePhan and JuicyStar07 in it, doing Holiday looks.)

Hope this helped!

P.S. Sometimes, not only do the gurus get free stuff, but the companies "sponsor" the videos. ie, if the guru tells them that they really enjoyed the product and will give them a positive review, the company will pay her for it too! JuicyStar07 got paid for a few of her products that she reviewed, like the OraBrush. As of Dec. 1st 2009, the gurus have to say, in the sidebar if they got the products for free, if they are affiliated with any of the companies (ie, they work for, or are getting paid by), if it is their 100% honest opinion and… I think that’s it!)

What is generally included in a beauty supplies kit that comes along with a cosmetology school’s tuition?

January 26th, 2010 | Posted by admin | Category: beauty1 Comment

I am about to start attending a beauty institute for a cosmetology program in order to become a hair stylist. Included in the cost of my tuition is a beauty supplies kit for various types of hair cutting equipment. I am just curious as to what utensils and equipment I should be expecting to receive?

Just about everything you need, Usually. Scissors, Curling Iron, Flat Iron, Straight Iron(Depending on what school), Perm Rods, Combs, Color bowl, Brush, Nail kit, etc.
