Can antioxidants trigger an immune response in multiple sclerosis?

May 3rd, 2009 | Posted by admin | Category: antioxidantsNo Comments

I'm wondering if antioxidants in multi-vitamins and typical supplements can trigger immune attack.

Studies have shown antioxidants and have the potential to diminish symptoms and support recovery in multiple sclerosis.

There are at least 6 clinical trials studying antioxidants and multiple screosis currently underway.

Does anyone use Alpha Lipoic Acid as an antioxidant?

May 3rd, 2009 | Posted by admin | Category: antioxidant2 Comments

I just bought ALA from HerbMart and decided to do some further research on it and discovered that it could possibly be dangerous to take because it mobilizes mercury to other parts of the body. Is there any way around this or should I just completely avoid the supplement. I was planning on using it in combination with Acetyl-L-Carintine.

I think you are very wise to avoid taking supplements unless you are sure they are safe, and that they have a decent chance of being effective.

There are a few things you should consider before taking supplements: There was a recent article in U.S. News & World Report about medicines and supplements sold in the United States. The article stated that the active ingredients of all sorts of medicines (prescription, over-the-counter, and supplements) are often manufactured abroad, but the label may not indicate this. Of course the concern is greatest when the components of the item are from China. This is why you need to know your manufacturer. Feel free to call or write to ask them where the components of their supplement come from. Also know your source. Does the store you buy from do its own research and stand behind the products it sells? Don't buy based on price alone. Sometimes the very same supplement is sold under different labels and there is no difference except for the markup. Other times, it's the distributor's guarantee that you are paying for. That guarantee may be worth the difference in price.

It is a good idea to check with mainstream newsletters on the safety of supplements. I really like to see what the Linus Pauling Institute recommends, and also to consult other sources such as Berkeley Wellness Letter, Harvard Health Letter, and Andrew Weil. LPI's newsletter is free, and they only ask for a charitable contribution once in a while (not obtrusively, either).

Good luck, and let us know what you decide. This may turn out to be an excellent supplement.

Why is ginseng kept in Martell?

May 3rd, 2009 | Posted by admin | Category: ginseng1 Comment

My mum bought a bottle of Ginseng from a medical hall and it's stored in Martell.Does anyone know why?Isn't Martell liquor? Is it benificial?

That is not the normal way to store ginseng. to store it it is kept in a dark dry place. I don't think she is putting it in there for storing it, perhaps it is for a type of remidy she is trying.

Foundation that doesnt settle around the fine lines of your face?

May 3rd, 2009 | Posted by admin | Category: fine lines2 Comments

I'm currently having that problem. It looks good in the morning but as the day progresses, the powder settles on the fine lines and makes me look cakey!

Primer is definately the key one of the best is Smashbox Photofinish Primer or you could change the type of powder you use. MAC sells Natural Skinfinish powder that defuses the look of fine lines and gives you a nice glow. You could also just use concealer instead of a full face of foundation which most women don't need. Liquid concealers crease less compared to cream concealers.
