How do you quantify antioxidants?

June 1st, 2009 | Posted by admin | Category: antioxidants1 Comment

Is there a recognized chemical process to mesaure antioxidants?

What happens if you crush a kilogram of blueberries and mix it with oxidants?

1-Anti-oxidants stop the transfer of electrons from an atom/molecule to another atom/molecule. A reducing agent is an atom or molecule that bonds to free radicals or plus+ charged ions. For example: baking soda accomplishes this when hydrogen ions are present in a sulfuric acid, lead acid battery system. So do the anti-oxidants in blueberries and other anti-oxidant loaded nutrients in the presence of free radicals in the body or brain.

2-There are many ways to measure antioxidants in the lab.

3-A reaction will take place that will reach equilibrium and register somewhere along the pH scale depending upon the concentration, form and other factors inherent to the oxidant(s) and anti-oxidant(s) involved.

Is spinach good like green tea for an antioxidant and to speed up the metabolism and loose weight?

June 1st, 2009 | Posted by admin | Category: antioxidant2 Comments

If I buy frozen spinach then boil some spinach and eat a big bowl every day. The frozen bags tend to be very condensed and weigh more than the weak leaf spinach sold in the produce department.

Green tea doesn't increase your metabolism, it's a clever marketing ploy.

Whether you would lose weight by eating 10 oz of frozen spinach every night would depend on what else you eat the rest of the day, how much you weigh and whether you add butter.

Spinach has many antioxidants and is a favorite of Kimkins.com diet members!

Does eye cream work to prevent bags and crows feet…?

June 1st, 2009 | Posted by admin | Category: crows feet2 Comments

I am a man aged 20 and want to prevent crows feet and eye bags
.
I bought a womans eye cream (as it was cheaper than a mans, and can there really be much difference?), and wondered….

… Do you think it actually works?
… And if so, would it be useful on my forehead to prevent wrinkles?

Thanks.
Tom

YES, YES, YES!!!! Eye cream is important! Do you ever wonder why asians look so young even when they're 50? It's because asians have oily skin and eyelids…..caucasions especially have naturally dryish skin so we wrinkle up faster….much faster. Eyecream will keep the delicate skin around your eye moist….but i don't recommend it for your forehead…that's just a waste of expensive product….eye cream is made to penetrate finer skin…it will just sit on your forhead and do nothing beneficial.

Makeup around the eyes and fine lines?

June 1st, 2009 | Posted by admin | Category: fine lines4 Comments

I have noticed lately that my concealer to cover the dark circles under my eyes isn't 'doing' it anymore. I have notice that I have some fine lines 'coming' up. And the concealer is making it look caked on and making the fine lines more apparent. This is very new to me and not sure what I'm doing wrong.

My daily beauty routine is using Elizabeth Arden products for wash/cleanse, some toner, moisturizer. Then concealer around eyes patting that in and then foundation, and then the rest of the war paint.

Any advice and suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

It sounds like you will need to change the concealer your using as well as the foundation. Try to continue patting the foundation around your eyes.

You could also have puffiness around the lower part of your eye in the morning as well and that may increase the fine lines appearance, get more sleep at night. Do not use any cleanser around your eyes in the morning. If you do anything, do that at night. Irritation of the skin increases the puffiness. Use a cold cloth to help in the morning, stop using the concealer for now and use a light foundation around your eyes. Sometimes in our efforts to cover the dark circles we over do it.
