I'm trying to simplify the function of antioxidants. Can someone please tell me if I have this right?

Basically, what I'm trying to figure out is how to simplify the importance of antioxidants in preventing cancer. The way I understand it (based on my research) is that healthy human cells thrive in a highly oxygenated environments. Cancer cells thrive when oxygen levels have greatly decreased. Free radicals are vulnerable cells susceptible to becoming cancerous. Antioxidants repair free radicals to prevent that from happening, therefor, maintaining healthy oxygen levels making it harder for cancer cells to develop and/or metastasize.
Is my understanding of this process accurate?
No, it's nothing to do with oxygen levels. The term is oxidation and in chemistry that just means that the compound is going from a low oxidation state to a high one. Oxygenating agents (like bleach) are often used to achieve this in the lab so that's where the association with oxygen comes from.
Compounds in high oxidation states tend to be highly reactive and free radicals are highly oxidised unstable compounds. They react with fat in the blood for example to create deposits in artery walls that can cause heart attacks. Antioxidants are chemicals which neutralise free radicals before they can oxidise fat or attack the DNA in cells to start cancers.
It's worth noting that oxygen is itself an oxidiser so too much oxygen will actually create free radicals and damage cells.
Which do you think is the best antioxidant supplement out in the market today?

I've tried reduced glutathione, grapeseed extract and now I'm using 4G 'coz it's much cheaper than the 2. Please help, I want my money's worth….
Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%. To have more satisfaction out of ur food, Chew each morsel at least 32 times. This will also activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness. Obey these signals.
Nothing other than water in between.
No special diet, call it by any name or program helps as one cannot adopt them on permanent basis. Diet pills are chemicals and per se bad and shud be avoided unless the doc considers it necessary looking at ur condition.
Take light exercises and brisk walks for 30 min.regularly preferably on empty stomach and twice a day.
U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time and hassle free.
Be patient and not in a hurry.
U cannot choose spots for reduction.
This schedule can be adopted on permanent basis to lead a healthy life and maintain weight.
What are some tricks to finding american ginseng?
June 6th, 2009 | Posted by admin | Category: ginseng2 Comments
I have looked and looked and can't find any in the woods. The woods have all the perfect growing conditions, in central new york. do you have to go really far into the woods to find it??
i have also looked near plants that tend to grow near ginseng such as mayapples etc. no luck..
In new York American ginseng is classified as "Exploitably Vulnerable", so it might be the best to cultivate from seeds or buy some container plants for "home made" ginseng extract.
Or to use one of the standardized meds.
Nevertheless, here some links:

I'm doing a project on cultural definitions of beauty and I can't find anywhere where the whole tall, light hair, light eyes, definition of beauty held in our western culture comes from.
Answers are appreciated, but links to sites are even more appreciated!!
