Is it alright for a 19 year old to use Oil of Olay Age Defying for a cleanser?

December 31st, 2009 | Posted by admin | Category: age defying3 Comments

I received it for Christmas as a White Elephant gift thing.. It would be a waste to not use it but I wanted to know if it would be OK!

Yes!! Dermatologists suggest using topical anti-aging creams as early as your early twenties. What perfect timing. It’s better to be proactive than reactive! Good luck and Merry Christmas (:

Are there anti wrinkle pads you can wear around your eyes to reduce or prevent wrinkles at night?

December 31st, 2009 | Posted by admin | Category: anti-wrinkle2 Comments

Where can i find these?

Blue Rose is right, what you do is it is a squishy mask you put on when you sleep(well, before) and during the day, you put in in the freezer so it’s nice and cold when you put it on and it will remove puffiness and redness, they are found at Bath and Body Works,
Walgreens, CVS, and probably and good drugstore. Oh, and i don’t know if their is anything in pad form…sorry! Well, good luck

Is there a simple assay that could test the antioxidant content level in various foods?

December 30th, 2009 | Posted by admin | Category: antioxidant1 Comment

I want to perform a science fair project on the possible differing antioxidant content levels in fruits and vegetables before and after being cooked by various methods, but do not know how to test for the antioxidant levels in a relatively cheap and simple way.

I’m not sure how cheap it is, but there are simple assays available. I’ve included links to a couple of relevant articles. You’ll want to visit a local university to read these, and may need a science teacher to help translate them. Basically ignore any method that uses GC, MS, HPLC, or any other method that mentions a machine you’ve never used because chances are you don’t have access to such a machine yet.

That leaves assays that use a dye or colored substrate, which is bleached by peroxide (oxygen free radicals). The idea is, the more antioxidant there is available, the less oxygen free radical there is to bleach the dye. You will still probably need a spectrophotometer, but every high school biology lab has at least one. DPPH or beta-carotene bleaching sounds promising, but I have no direct experience doing this.

Your best bet, if you’re not shy, is to make an appointment with the chairman of the biology (or biochemistry or chemistry) department at your local university, and tell them what you want to do and ask for help. They may not be able to help you, but they’ll know someone who can.

what is the best antioxidant vitamin? What are the benefits?

December 27th, 2009 | Posted by admin | Category: antioxidant3 Comments

I want to take antioxidants but there are so many that I’m lost. Theres Alpha lipoic acid, grape seed, green tea, etc but I have no idea what to buy. I’m not even really sure what the benefits from each are. I’m mainly wanting something for skin and immune health. I want something that I can go purchase from a Walgreens or CVS. The only other supplement that I take right now is Biotin 5000 mg a day.

Take C 1000-2000mg per day
and E 400iu a day

and then a good multi-vitamin

How important was beauty to ancient greeks?is beauty more or less important to us today?

December 26th, 2009 | Posted by admin | Category: beauty1 Comment

is beauty the same for all people?or do peoples interpretations of beauty differ depending on their culture and values?is beauty always good?is good always beauty?

Views of beauty always change. However, ours seems to be similar to that of the Greeks. However, if you look at the middle ages, the bigger a woman was the prettier she was. I do not think that beauty is always good because of the implications it can have. Conforming to this so called beauty has caused many people lots of problems. Rather than appreciating themselves, people would rather go anorexic or bulimic to conform to societies standards. But to me, good is always beauty because that is how I see it. Remember, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.. (cliche but true :P)
Hope that helped… Good luck
